Yachting is rapidly gaining ground among lifestyle enthusiasts in Indonesia and Tenggara Marine has positioned itself at the forefront of this growing market.
It’s no surprise that Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago with more than 17,000 islands, is a major market for yachting in Southeast Asia. Spearheading the influx of yachts into Indonesia is Tenggara Marine, the exclusive dealer for Ferretti Group, bringing world-class luxury Italian craftsmanship to docks across Indonesia.
The Italian shipbuilding company presents a unique portfolio of brands, including Wally, Ferretti Yachts, Riva, Pershing, Itama, Custom Line and CRN. Each features a distinctive identity, and have all become synonymous with luxury, innovation, passion and excellence. It’s safe to say that Ferretti Group is a world leader in yachting, and offers an uncompromising mix of Italian quality, design and engineering.
According to Ivano Poma, Chairman and CEO of Tenggara Marine, Indonesia has all the right elements for yachting culture to emerge. The country has tens of thousands of kilometres of coastline coupled with accessible sea lanes that open the way to unspoilt, pristine seascapes. There is also a growing community of high-net-worth individuals with an eye for the finer things in life and a taste for exploration in style. “Indonesia is a thrilling market with endless potential, and a growing desire for upgraded lifestyles, fuelled by wealth and optimism.” Mr. Poma explains “The country is projected to be one of the top contributors to global economic growth in the next five years. It’s a natural fit for the modern yachting industry to flourish here.”
Mr. Poma infused his passion for sailing, which was nurtured through summers spent growing up on the Italian Riviera, into Tenggara Marine. This passion aligns perfectly with one of Ferretti Group’s iconic brands: Riva. “Growing up, I was obsessed with the Riva motorboat” he adds. Riva’s shipyard was established in 1842, on Lake Iseo in Sarnico. In the 50s, Carlo Riva created the design that we now identify with the word “motorboat.” Filmmakers, in particular, were enamored with this chic craft that glides over the water with elegance. With their iconic mahogany, chrome and turquoise detailed hulls, Riva yachts have graced the silver screen for over 60 years. From action movies such as James Bond and Men in Black, to art house flicks such as The Great Beauty, cameos by Riva boats have become beloved highlights in cinema. Riva recently celebrated its 180th anniversary at La Fenice in Venice. The event was attended by football legend David Beckham, actor Pierfrancesco Favino and racer Charles Leclerc, who have shown their love for the brand by appearing in a short film titled The Persuaders. Today’s Riva yachts are recognized as icons of Italian yachting artistry. The brand’s modern fleet showcase unparalleled engineering and a high degree of nautical beauty.
As it happens, last year saw Mr. Poma attending Ferretti Group’s Private Preview at the Yacht Club of Monaco. The star-studded event attended by H.R.H. Prince Albert of Monaco, Charles Leclerc, and iconic fashion designer Domenico Dolce of Dolce & Gabbana, as well as a specially selected group of over 600 owners from around the world. English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams gave a spectacular live performance on a stage suspended over the water of the prestigious MC Yacht Club. The actual stars of the show, however, were the 37 boats showcased by Ferretti Group, with seven premiers made available for exclusive guest visits and sea trials. Most importantly, this yearly event underlined the constant evolution and progress charted by Ferretti Group’s iconic brands.
The market dynamics in Indonesia are also quite unique. Mr. Poma points out a specific segment of yachts that are likely to resonate with Indonesian buyers. Ferretti Yachts between 60 and 100 feet, as well as Riva’s flybridge models like the new Diva 82, are set to be popular choices. There is also the innovative INFYNITO range, which offers sustainability features like solar panels and power banks for air-conditioning without the nuisance of a running generator.
While there is growing demand for contemporary yachts, Mr. Poma notes a clear distinction between modern vessels and traditional Phinisi boats. “Modern yachts not only meet the most stringent EC safety standards, they are also equipped with gyroscope technology, making them extremely stable in any condition. Ferretti Group yachts are designed with lighter materials and their quality and engineering ensure comfort, speed and fuel efficiency.”
With a diverse selection of vessels masterfully engineered not only for cutting-edge sailing but also for modern convenience, Ferretti Group, through Tenggara Marine, has everything Indonesian yacht enthusiasts could ever desire. Beyond yacht sales, Tenggara Marine aims to build a full- service operation, from after-sales to brokerage and charter management. “Our goal is to anchor Ferretti Group’s presence in Indonesia, ensuring that every aspect of yachting, from purchasing to maintenance, is catered to,” notes Mr. Poma.
Looking ahead, Tenggara Marine sees Indonesia as a burgeoning hub for the yachting lifestyle, a market that, despite its infancy, holds immense promise. New infrastructure is surely to bring positive growth to the industry. Mr. Poma concludes: “major change will be triggered by state-ofthe-art infrastructure like Bali’s new marina in Benoa, currently under construction, which will feature over 150 berths, a dry dock facility for yacht maintenance alongside F&B outlets, entertainment and outdoor retail.”
